On May 6, Chicago’s iconic Hot Doug’s announced it will be closing its famous emporium this October. The always-long-lines to buy one of the city’s most famous hot dogs are now longer than ever.
To help out the countless number of tourists and all of Chicago’s Hot Doug’s fans, a team of hot dog lovers at FCB Chicago created an infographic illustrating “the best conditions for doing the Hot Doug-ie before it closes.” In other words, the best time to go to avoid the lines.
Using social data surrounding when customers were checking-in to Hot Doug’s or tweeting about waiting in line, the team estimated when the lines would be shortest and correlated the data against historical weather data to see other patterns and trends surrounding the average number of people checking-in.
The infographic is a doggone good way to cut down the wait time – and demonstrates the importance of data and analytics in our everyday lives!
